Aux XIX et XX\u00e8me si\u00e8cles, c\u2019est en partie la communaut\u00e9 afro-am\u00e9ricaine de Boston qui a entam\u00e9 la lutte en faveur de l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9 des droits de tous les hommes.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est bien le Massachussetts qui, en 1783, a \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier \u00e9tat \u00e0 d\u00e9clarer l\u2019<strong>esclavage<\/strong> ill\u00e9gal. Etat pr\u00e9curseur donc, dans lequel de nombreux Noirs r\u00eavaient de jours meilleurs ; c\u2019est donc toute une communaut\u00e9 d\u2019esclaves devenus libres (et d\u2019autres s\u2019\u00e9tant \u00e9chapp\u00e9s) qui s\u2019est alors form\u00e9e \u00e0 Boston.<\/p>\n<p>Cette belle communaut\u00e9 s\u2019est install\u00e9e dans les quartiers de <strong>Beacon Hill<\/strong> et de <strong>North End<\/strong>, o\u00f9 subsistent aujourd\u2019hui les vestiges de leur combat pour leurs droits et de leur r\u00e9ussite, visibles le long du fameux \u00ab <em>Black Heritage Trail<\/em> \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1frWrC2_km3MSN-rEz_9rN8iUUbuCG14&amp;ehbc=2E312F\" width=\"750\" height=\"550\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Plusieurs \u00e9difices, sites et \u0153uvres m\u00e9ritent donc de s\u2019y arr\u00eater, notamment <\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"#1\">Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#2\">George Middleton House<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#3\">The Philips School<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#4\">John J. Edifi\u00e9e en 1797, ses propri\u00e9taires \u00e9taient alors George Middleton et Louis Glapion. The Philips School<\/h2>\n<p>Fond\u00e9e en 1824 sur Anderson and Pinckney Streets, cette \u00e9cole \u00e9tait alors r\u00e9serv\u00e9e aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves Blancs, jusqu\u2019en 1855, o\u00f9 elle a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 accueillir des<strong> \u00e9tudiants Noirs<\/strong>. John J. Smith House<\/h2>\n<p>Au 86 Pinckney Street, la maison de John J. Smith s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve. N\u00e9 \u00ab <em>libre<\/em> \u00bb en 1820, John J. Smith \u00e9tait un barbier connu dans son quartier, et son \u00e9choppe est rapidement devenue le centre du mouvement <strong>pro-abolition<\/strong> de la ville, mais aussi un point de rdv pour les esclaves en fuite.<br \/>\n<a name=\"5\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>5. Charles Street Meeting House<\/h2>\n<p>Construite en 1807 \u00e0 l\u2019angle de Mt Vernon et Charles Street, la Charles Street Meeting House \u00e9tait initialement une <strong>\u00e9glise baptiste<\/strong>, o\u00f9 l\u2019un des leaders du mouvement d\u2019abolition de l\u2019esclavage, Timothy Gilbert, invit\u00e2t quelques uns de ses amis Noirs \u00e0 la messe. Timothy \u00e9tait banni de l\u2019\u00e9glise suite \u00e0 cet \u00e9pisode.<\/p>\n<p>Il fond\u00e2t alors la \u00ab <em>Frist Baptist Free Church<\/em> \u00bb, qui devint ensuite le \u00ab <em>Tremont Temple<\/em> \u00bb.
