Qui dit fin dit renouveau avec un grand <strong>mouvement de construction<\/strong>, o\u00f9 des b\u00e2timents rivalisant de nouveaut\u00e9s poussaient comme des champignons\u00a0; c\u2019est justement le cas de <strong>The Rookery<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Construit en 1888 par le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre cabinet d\u2019architectes <strong>Burnham and Root<\/strong>, The Rookery \u00e9tait alors consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme leur chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre \u2013 ils n\u2019ont d\u2019ailleurs pas attendu avant d\u2019y installer leurs propres bureaux\u00a0; pourquoi se priver\u00a0?<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est l\u2019un des premiers exemples de <strong>gratte-ciels \u00e0 usage commercial<\/strong> de la ville, dot\u00e9 d\u2019une fa\u00e7ade majestueuse et d\u2019une charpente m\u00e9tallique, qui annon\u00e7ait d\u00e9j\u00e0 de nouvelles techniques de construction. Le lobby vous impressionne\u00a0? La raison d\u2019une telle cr\u00e9ation\u00a0? Le besoin cruel de lumi\u00e8re \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s ch\u00e8re et peu fiable.
