Comptez environ 1 600 miles (2 600 km) au total. Les jours 2, 3 et 4 sont longs : si vous disposez de huit ou neuf jours, ce sont eux qu&#8217;il faut couper en deux. Le premier soir, filez directement \u00e0 Tucson, \u00e0 un peu moins de deux heures au sud par l&#8217;Interstate 10 (110 miles), pour \u00eatre dans les saguaros au lever du jour.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1mPOyMlEnr6MQQ0txGow8ga9unaVoMXY&amp;ehbc=2E312F\" width=\"750\" height=\"550\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Quand partir ?<\/h2>\n<p>De f\u00e9vrier \u00e0 avril, il fait doux dans le d\u00e9sert de Sonora, autour de Tucson et de Phoenix, alors qu&#8217;\u00e0 partir de mai la chaleur rend p\u00e9nibles les marches de la mi-journ\u00e9e. Mais les nuits restent froides en altitude, et le sommet du Mount Lemmon peut \u00eatre enneig\u00e9. Ne comptez pas sur la floraison des saguaros, de fin mai \u00e0 juillet. Autre pi\u00e8ge : l&#8217;Arizona ne passe pas \u00e0 l&#8217;heure d&#8217;\u00e9t\u00e9, contrairement au Nouveau-Mexique. Du deuxi\u00e8me dimanche de mars au premier dimanche de novembre, le Nouveau-Mexique a donc une heure d&#8217;avance sur l&#8217;Arizona : pensez-y le jour o\u00f9 vous repassez la fronti\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<h2>Jour 1 : Tucson, les saguaros et le Mount Lemmon<\/h2>\n<h3>Saguaro National Park, district ouest<\/h3>\n<p>Le <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/sagu\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saguaro National Park<\/a><\/strong> encadre Tucson de ses deux districts. Commencez par l&#8217;ouest, \u00e0 40 minutes environ du centre-ville. \u00c0 1 mile du Red Hills Visitor Center, le <strong>Desert Discovery Trail<\/strong> est une boucle goudronn\u00e9e d&#8217;un demi-mile (800 m) au milieu des saguaros, ces cactus g\u00e9ants qui peuvent vivre jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 250 ans. Comptez une heure avec le centre d&#8217;accueil. Pr\u00e9voyez deux \u00e0 trois heures. Il ouvre de 8 h 30 \u00e0 17 h d&#8217;octobre \u00e0 mai.<\/p>\n<h3>Mount Lemmon<\/h3>\n<p>Traversez Tucson (environ deux heures de route depuis le mus\u00e9e) pour prendre la Catalina Highway, ou Sky Island Scenic Byway : 27 miles (43 km) de lacets qui montent du d\u00e9sert aux for\u00eats de conif\u00e8res du <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/r03\/coronado\/recreation\/mount-lemmon-day-use-area\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mount Lemmon<\/a><\/strong>, sommet de 2 795 m o\u00f9 il peut faire 11 \u00e0 17 \u00b0C de moins qu&#8217;en bas. Le nom vient de la botaniste Sara Plummer Lemmon, qui y monta en 1881. Nuit \u00e0 Tucson.<\/p>\n<h2>Jour 2 : Bisbee, Tombstone et les Chiricahuas<\/h2>\n<h3>La route de Sonoita et de Bisbee<\/h3>\n<p>Partez vers le sud-est par Sonoita (environ une heure), premi\u00e8re appellation viticole de l&#8217;Arizona, puis continuez vers <strong>Bisbee<\/strong> (1 h 15 de plus) \u00e0 travers les reliefs de la Coronado National Forest. Ancienne ville du cuivre, Bisbee est devenue un village d&#8217;artistes aux maisons color\u00e9es. Comptez une heure.<\/p>\n<h3>Fairbank, ville fant\u00f4me au bord du San Pedro<\/h3>\n<p>\u00c0 45 minutes au nord-ouest, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blm.gov\/visit\/fairbank-historic-townsite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fairbank<\/a><\/strong>, ancienne gare du XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, fait partie du San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area du Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Un sentier passe devant les b\u00e2timents, ferm\u00e9s au public ; l&#8217;ancienne \u00e9cole abrite un petit mus\u00e9e ouvert du vendredi au dimanche, de 9 h 30 \u00e0 16 h 30. Comptez 45 minutes.<br \/>\n<i class=\"fa fa-link\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/frenchdistrict.com\/articles\/les-villes-fantomes-aux-etats-unis-souvenirs-bien-vivants-du-passe\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Les villes fant\u00f4mes aux \u00c9tats-Unis<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Tombstone<\/h3>\n<p>Tombstone n&#8217;est qu&#8217;\u00e0 un quart d&#8217;heure. C&#8217;est ici, le 26 octobre 1881, que les fr\u00e8res Earp et Doc Holliday affront\u00e8rent les Clanton et les McLaury : la fusillade d&#8217;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ok-corral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">O.K. Corral<\/a><\/strong> dura une trentaine de secondes et fit trois morts. Le site historique en propose une reconstitution chaque jour, et le billet donne aussi acc\u00e8s au mus\u00e9e du Tombstone Epitaph, le journal local. Fl\u00e2nez ensuite sur Allen Street, la rue historique. Le <strong>Cave Creek Canyon<\/strong>, avec ses falaises volcaniques et ses sycomores, est l&#8217;un des hauts lieux de l&#8217;observation des oiseaux aux \u00c9tats-Unis ; le centre d&#8217;information du Forest Service, \u00e0 l&#8217;entr\u00e9e du canyon, donne cartes et conseils. Faites le plein avant : d&#8217;apr\u00e8s les guides locaux, il n&#8217;y a pas de station-service \u00e0 Portal. Lordsburg, au Nouveau-Mexique, est \u00e0 un peu plus d&#8217;une heure pour la nuit.<\/p>\n<h2>Jour 3 : White Sands, Three Rivers et Valley of Fires<\/h2>\n<h3>White Sands National Park<\/h3>\n<p>De Lordsburg, comptez environ 3 heures par l&#8217;Interstate 10, Las Cruces et la route 70 jusqu&#8217;au <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/whsa\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">White Sands National Park<\/a><\/strong>. Ses dunes couvrent 275 miles carr\u00e9s (712 km\u00b2) : c&#8217;est le plus grand champ de dunes de gypse au monde. Le Dunes Drive s&#8217;enfonce dans le sable blanc ; on d\u00e9vale les dunes sur des luges en plastique, vendues ou lou\u00e9es \u00e0 la boutique du parc. Pr\u00e9voyez deux \u00e0 trois heures.<\/p>\n<p>Le parc est enclav\u00e9 dans le White Sands Missile Range, terrain d&#8217;essais militaires. Pendant les tirs, le Dunes Drive peut \u00eatre ferm\u00e9 jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 trois heures, et la route 70 entre le parc et Las Cruces aussi. Le <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blm.gov\/visit\/three-rivers-petroglyph-site\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Three Rivers Petroglyph Site<\/a><\/strong>, \u00e0 5 miles de la route, compte plus de 21 000 p\u00e9troglyphes laiss\u00e9s par les Jornada Mogollon : masques, soleils, animaux, mains, motifs g\u00e9om\u00e9triques. Un sentier rocailleux d&#8217;un demi-mile relie les plus beaux. Le Malpais Nature Trail, goudronn\u00e9, la parcourt sur trois quarts de mile. N\u00e9e des filons de plomb d\u00e9couverts en 1866, la ville a perdu ses derniers habitants en 1947, selon l&#8217;office du tourisme du Nouveau-Mexique. Le tron\u00e7on a rouvert, mais le minist\u00e8re des Transports de l&#8217;Arizona (ADOT) r\u00e9serve sa partie la plus raide, de Fish Creek Vista (borne 222) au pont de Fish Creek (borne 223,5), aux <strong>4&#215;4 \u00e0 garde au sol haute<\/strong> et aux v\u00e9hicules tout-terrain, sans remorque, et demande aux autres conducteurs de ne pas s&#8217;y engager.<\/p>\n<p><strong>En voiture ordinaire<\/strong>, faites demi-tour \u00e0 Tortilla Flat, ou au plus loin \u00e0 Fish Creek Vista, le dernier endroit pr\u00e9vu pour cela en venant de l&#8217;ouest : n&#8217;allez pas au-del\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>En 4&#215;4 \u00e0 garde au sol haute<\/strong>, vous pouvez parcourir la route jusqu&#8217;au bout, jusqu&#8217;au barrage Theodore Roosevelt, puis revenir vers Phoenix par la route 188 et la route 60, par Globe et Superior : vous passez devant le Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Les contrats de location interdisent souvent la conduite sur piste, m\u00eame pour un 4&#215;4 : v\u00e9rifiez le v\u00f4tre avant de partir. Le pass annuel <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/planyourvisit\/passes.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">America the Beautiful<\/a><\/strong> co\u00fbte 80 dollars pour les citoyens et r\u00e9sidents des \u00c9tats-Unis et couvre aussi les frais d&#8217;usage des for\u00eats nationales et des terrains du BLM (Mount Lemmon, Sedona, en principe Three Rivers et Valley of Fires) : il est rentabilis\u00e9 d\u00e8s ce voyage. R\u00e9servez en revanche t\u00f4t votre h\u00f4tel \u00e0 Sedona ; Lordsburg et Socorro offrent peu de choix.<\/p>\n<h3>Route, essence, chaleur et altitude<\/h3>\n<p>Les stations sont rares, notamment entre Magdalena et la Petrified Forest : faites le plein d\u00e8s que la jauge passe sous la moiti\u00e9. Emportez beaucoup d&#8217;eau, de la cr\u00e8me solaire et un chapeau, m\u00eame en mars, et t\u00e9l\u00e9chargez vos cartes : le r\u00e9seau mobile manque par endroits. L&#8217;itin\u00e9raire passe de 730 m environ \u00e0 Tucson \u00e0 pr\u00e8s de 2 100 m \u00e0 Flagstaff et 2 795 m au Mount Lemmon : pr\u00e9voyez des v\u00eatements chauds pour les soir\u00e9es. En cas de neige, les routes de montagne peuvent fermer ou exiger des cha\u00eenes.<\/p>\n<h3>Contr\u00f4les routiers<\/h3>\n<p>Vous pourriez passer un point de contr\u00f4le permanent de la police des
