Description
Vida: Tonkar 555 signed
Vida’s signed Tonkar 555 (2020) is a limited edition of 30 prints, professionally printed in Paris on museum-quality Hahnemühle 310g paper. The word Tonkar comes from the verlan (a French slang) word “carton”, meaning cardboard. The concept of the Tonkars was born in 2012 when French artist Vida took the refined aesthetics of his acrylic paintings into three-dimensional space. Using recycled materials for convenience as much as for ecological conviction, Vida created sculptures that sublimated the nature of these materials. He then photographed his creations, reworked them digitally, and pushed the process until the original photo became unrecognizable and morphed into a powerful, poetic and vibrant image.

Biography: At an early age, French artist Vida surrounded himself with the world of arts. Vida’s first attraction to letters and alphabets led him into the concept of 3D optical illusion, under the influence of the German and Dutch schools of the 90s. As a mural artist, he was one of the winners of the 2005 award at the European Write for Gold festival. In 2006, Vida’s career took a turning point, as he started to experiment with geometric abstraction and volume with a link to architecture. Through the use of different materials and techniques, Vida was able to stand out through his own unique form of expression. In recent years, Vida focused on his Tonkars (Poetic Geometry), which yet again highlight his unique style in the multimedia form of combining sculpture, photography and digital design, while taking up again his love for painting.
