After a successful tour in France in April, French jazz bassist and Juilliard graduate Clovis Nicolas’ band comes back to New York and will perform at “The Kitano” on May 15th, 2014 for the official CD release concert in the USA.
Parallel to his sideman activities with luminaries such as Grant Stewart, Harry Allen or Bruce Harris, French jazz bassist and Juilliard graduate Clovis Nicolas leads his own orchestra, a skillful quintet that incorporates some of the best young musicians in New York.
The repertoire of his band consists of Clovis’ original compositions, but also jazz classics such as “The Bridge” by Sonny Rollins or “The Invisible” by Ornette Coleman. Each selection has been crafted to create a unity of sound that brings together musical materials from swing to more modern textures.
Clovis Nicolas’ band recently released an album for Sunnyside Records, a label that has been showcasing New York’s best jazz for over thirty years. The album received great reviews (All About Jazz, JazzNews Magazine, Bop-N-Jazz,..) and had a lot of radio plays (WBGO, TSF Jazz,..).
